Egli: As winter rolls on, let’s remember hunger and homelessness aren’t seasonal

Last week, Ottawa City Councillor Keith Egli hosted the Feed the Hungry Event in Support of the Ottawa Mission. We asked him to tell us what led to its creation and why it’s an important issue for him. Here’s what he had to say:

I started this partnership with The Mission six years ago. I believe very much in the concept that community should support the more vulnerable in our city.

By hosting this event in February, it shines a light on an issue that gets a lot of play around Christmas and Thanksgiving but not necessarily year round.

Unfortunately, the problems of homelessness and hunger are not seasonal. The event allows for some dialogue around these topics and hopefully reminds people of our collective responsibility towards each other.
