Local business owners joined Deputy Mayor Bob Monette and Boom 99.7 DJ Dylan Black at the Record Centre in Hintonburg Saturday morning to kick off a fundraising effort for the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
February is Heart Month, and 11 Hintonburg-area businesses have signed on to sell $2 paper hearts in support of the cause. They’ll also be decorating their storefront windows in a friendly neighbourhood competition run by the Wellington West BIA, which organized Saturday’s Heart Month Proclamation. Voters will choose their favourite, with the results announced Feb. 21.
“We just thought it was an important community support activity that the neighbourhood could be creative getting involved with,” said Wellington West BIA executive director Zach Dayler. “We’ve all had someone in our lives affected by a heart condition and it’s important to provide support and raise awareness for those who need it.”
The particpating businesses include AMAnecer Fashion Boutique, La Tropiqua, Original Purple Cow, Viens Avec Moi, Inside Out Studio Barre, Hintonburg Public House, Forbes Beauty Co., Fab Baby Gear, JV Studios, Thyme & Again, Twiss & Weber.
